OPERATION SCHOOL BELL
Every year, thousands of needy or homeless children may not attend school because they simply do not have adequate clothing. Through the Assistance League of Las Vegas’ Operation School Bell program, children are given confidence and encouragement to stay in school through the gift of new clothing. In the 2005-2006 school year alone, more than 4,600 children were clothed at Operation School Bell.
When children arrive at Operation School Bell, they enter a retail-like environment with racks of new clothing, a shoe department and dressing room. Each child gets to personally shop for his or her own new jeans, shirts, underwear, socks shoes and jackets for school. Children also receive a backpack and personal hygiene kit, all at no cost.
